Which Physician's Choice products are for kids?
Three: Kids Probiotic Chewable, Kids Fiber Gummies and Kids Probiotic + Prebiotic Fiber Packets. Physician's Choice's own wording, quoted at the top of this record, calls them a Kids Chewable Probiotic, Fiber Gummies and a Probiotic + Fiber Powder, and says they are "the only Physician’s Choice products we recommend for children under 18."
The two sets of names match one to one. The packets' label front reads "Probiotic + Fiber," and one serving is "1 Stick Pack (3.4g)": the powder in Physician's Choice's wording.3
What age is each Kids product for?
Ages 4 and up for the Chewable and the Gummies, and ages 1 and up for the packets, as each label prints it.1,2,3 Physician's Choice asks that each be used "according to its labeled age range and directions," and all three sets of directions name the age again. Two of them also say the product is taken under adult supervision.
The packets panel shows two percent Daily Value columns, one headed Ages 1-3 and one Ages 4+.3 That layout comes from FDA's labeling rule for supplements: when a product is for children 1 through 3 years of age, "the column heading shall clearly state the intended group," and a product for more than one group shows each group's percent Daily Value in separate columns.9
What is in Physician's Choice kids probiotic?
Kids Probiotic Chewable holds 5 billion CFU in a 22 mg blend of 7 species, plus vitamin C 45 mg, vitamin D 15 mcg, zinc 2.5 mg and 145 mg of organic acacia fiber, in 1 chewable tablet. Xylitol is the first of its other ingredients. The label does not say whether the 5 billion is counted at manufacture or at expiration.1
NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements explains why that matters: "Some products list the number of CFUs at the time of manufacture whereas others list the number through the expiration date or use-by date."5 The label prints one strain with its strain designation, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, and the other six by species only. Codes for all seven, from a strain list Physician's Choice provided, are in the strain register (PC-REC-001). Strain studies are not part of this record.
The packets print the GG strain under its newer genus name, as Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG;3 NIH lists that genus as "Lacticaseibacillus (formerly Lactobacillus)."6
What is in Physician's Choice Kids Fiber Gummies?
Two gummies hold 3 g of dietary fiber, 0 g of total sugars including 0 g added sugars, 10 calories and 4 g of total carbohydrate, and chicory root fiber is the first of the other ingredients. The label reads for ages 4+, two gummies daily under adult supervision, with 30 servings. No probiotic is listed.2
What is in the Kids Probiotic + Fiber Powder?
One 3.4 g stick pack holds 3 g of dietary fiber, a 3.3 g Kids Prebiotic Fiber Blend of organic inulin from agave and organic acacia fiber, and a 23 mg Kids Probiotic Blend of three species, with 5 calories. The panel prints no CFU count. Its directions are for children 1 year and older: one stick pack mixed into a cool drink or food.3
Is Physician's Choice kids probiotic good? What a label record can show
A record shows what each label prints and where each line came from; it cannot show how a product works for a child. No study of any of the three finished products is entered here. NCCIH, part of the National Institutes of Health, notes that "many dietary supplements have not been tested in pregnant women, nursing mothers, or children."7
Nor does the brand name settle it. Physician's Choice puts it this way: "Physician’s Choice is our brand name, not a claim that doctors recommend or endorse our products." Star ratings, review counts and customer quotes are not label facts, so this record carries none.
What does this record not show?
Whatever the three labels do not print, plus two lines on hold. The Chewable's count has no stated basis, the packets' panel prints no count while their product page prints one, and the packets are not in the strain register yet, so their three species have no codes on this site. Each gap is below, with what stands in its place.
| Not shown | In its place | Status |
|---|---|---|
| When the Chewable's 5 billion CFU is counted | The printed count, marked "No basis stated." | Not on the label |
| A CFU count for the packets | The 23 mg blend amount. The panel prints no count; the product page prints 10 billion CFUs. | Held |
| Strain codes for the packets' three species | The species as printed. | Not entered yet |
| The Chewable's "Formulated without" line | Nothing, until Physician's Choice confirms it. | Held |
| Testing or origin lines on the labels | The company-wide testing statement under the table. | Not on the panel |
| What any of the three does for a child | Nothing. This record enters label lines only. | Left out |
| Reviews, ratings, prices | Nothing; no label carries them. | Left out |
Where the Kids labels are shown in full
Physician's Choice makes all three and publishes this site; the record lays the labels out and adds nothing beyond them. Each Supplement Facts image is shown on its physicianschoice.com product page.
When a clinician should be involved
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Starting a child on any of the three | Physician's Choice: "Always consult your child’s pediatrician or healthcare provider before starting a new supplement routine." Cleveland Clinic's supplement sheet adds: "Talk to your care team before giving supplements to a child. Special care may be needed."8 |
| A child with known allergies | Physician's Choice: "If you have known allergies, review the product’s ingredient list and allergen information and consult your healthcare provider before purchasing or using it. Most of our products are formulated without the top 9 common allergens, but ingredients vary by product." |
| An adverse event after taking one | Physician's Choice: "If you experience an adverse event, stop using the product and contact your healthcare provider immediately. Please also notify us at support@physicianschoice.com or 1-877-395-2707." |
The Kids line in sum
Physician's Choice's Kids line is three labels: a chewable tablet with 5 billion CFU, vitamins C and D, zinc and acacia fiber for ages 4+; gummies with 3 g of fiber and 0 g of sugars for ages 4+; and stick packs with 3 g of fiber and a 23 mg probiotic blend for ages 1+. This record ranks none of them and states no effect for any.
