Digestive Enzymes and Bloat + Gas: the full label record

Short answer

One capsule of Physician's Choice Digestive Enzymes holds an 85 mg blend of 16 named enzymes and a 159 mg prebiotic and probiotic blend with three Bacillus probiotics. The directions are 1 capsule with the largest meal. Bloat + Gas Probiotic is a separate formula: a 325 mg pre, pro and postbiotic blend built around B. subtilis OPTIBIOME BS50 at 2 billion CFU, a 50 mg herbal blend and a 36 mg enzyme blend that includes alpha-galactosidase. Both labels are entered below, line by line.

The questions behind this record

Digestive Enzymes, entry by entry

Each line is entered as printed on the Supplement Facts panel. Two lines are held until Physician's Choice confirms them, because two of its own sources describe them differently.

The two labels side by side

What the label does not state: activity units

Enzyme strength can be shown in activity units for each enzyme. Innerbody describes the FCC (Food Chemicals Codex) as "an independent standard that defines enzyme activity units." The Digestive Enzymes label lists its enzymes by total blend weight, 85 mg. If Physician's Choice publishes units per enzyme, they will be added to this record and logged in the changelog.

For context, Johns Hopkins Medicine notes that over-the-counter enzyme supplements commonly contain amylase, lipase and protease, and that some add lactase and alpha-galactosidase. It explains that alpha-galactosidase breaks down galactooligosaccharides, a fiber found mostly in beans, root vegetables and some dairy products.

Directions
1 capsule with the largest meal. Some people take one more with a heavy meal; most do not take more than 2 a day.
Warnings

Shelf life
About 2 years from manufacture. The date is on the bottom of the bottle. Next to the storage lines of the probiotics: PC-REC-005.
Enzyme source
Vegan and vegetarian. Microbial and plant enzymes, including bromelain from pineapple and papain from papaya.
Testing and origin
